Welcome
A little about ourselves
Black Prince SAS was set up in 2012 to continue running the existing District Scout Hikes once Bexleyheath District merged and became part of the new Bexley District (Registered Charity number 303506).
In 2015 we added a new event, Evade & Capture, where as well as navigation teams also had to avoid being captured en route.
In 2017 we re-introduced the Pegasus Hike, a night hike of 9 to 12 miles for the Explorer Scout section.
In 2018 we started a Monopoly Challenge in London for Scouts and Explorers.
2020 events were of course badly affected, as everyone was, by COVID-19 with the majority cancelled or postponed. The 2 day hikes were rearranged and run (in a modified format to comply with COVID Amber restrictions) in October and November's Monopoly Challenge was run on Zoom rather than around London.
The first event of 2021 was April's Evade & Capture which was from home via Zoom due to the ongoing COVID restrictions while June 2021's Howard Morgan Patrol Hike and Sixers Hike Challenge saw a first face to face event since February 2020.
In 2022 Black Prince SAS accepted the chance to organise the latest Bexley District Camp in September with over 600 spending the weekend at our District Site - Cudham Shaws Outdoor Centre
Haslehurst Hike 2022
October saw a new venue in Sussex host the annual Haslehurst and Pegasus Night Hikes with 3 new winners announced on a very wet Sunday morning - thankfully the rain had mostly held off while teams had beenout walking. Congratulations to 3rd Welling who won the senior Haslehurst Hike and to 8th Bexleyheath who won the junior Haslehurst Hike. Both competitions were close and well done to all teams as everyone completed the whole route and the Jimmy Bus was redundant for the night. As every year many thanks to everyone who helped with running the hike which is much appreciated as always. Pegasus Hike 2022
In October 2022 we also ran the Pegasus Hike for Explorer Units within Bexley to run alongside the Haslehurst Hike. This was also a close competition with Excalibur ESU the winners for the first time. Evade & Capture VIII
The first of our 2023 events took place in April near Sittingbourne with 17 teams taking part, the vast majority of whom made it back to the Safe House unaided. Congratulations to 1st Baldwyns Park, who were caught only once and therefore with €280 were the winners. As always many thanks to all of the Leaders, SAS members and Explorer Scouts who came gave up their time to help - the events simply wouldn't work without you. Bexley District Camp 2022
Over 600 members of the District took part in District Camp at the end of September (a year later than planned due to COVID) with 2 programme zones on Saturday - Its A Knockout in one and a variety of activities in the other including air rifles, archery, cave bus, climbing, inflatibles and tomahawks and all groups tackling a variety of Every Second Counts 10 minute challenges on Sunday morning.

Howard Morgan Patrol Hike 2022
The annual Howard Morgan Patrol Hike was held on it's traditional day in June but with a new venue, making use of the new District Campsite at Cudham Shaws. The competition was another close one with just 4 points separating the first 2 teams and 5th/7th Bexleyheath the narrow winners. For the first time we also ran a competition for teams walking with a leader - the Woodstock Hike - with 4th Bexleyheath winning that by just 5 points. As always, many thanks to all the Leaders, SAS members and Explorers who gave up their time to run checkpoints or walk with their teams in both the Scout and Cub events. Sixers Hike Challenge 2022
Congratulations to 1st Bridgen Cubs who won the Sixers Hike Challenge, winning the event for a 4th time.
As ever this competition was very close with only a few points separating the teams and we hope to see many of the older Cubs at our Haslehurst Hike in October and other events once they've moved onto Scouts. Monopoly Challenge 2022
In November we ran our Monopoly Challenge events again , returning to London for the 1st time since 2019 and using the traditional Monopoly Board locations. Congratulations to 1st Foots Cray who won the Scout competition again to complete a hattrick of wins and to Excalibur ESU who retained the Explorer competition. |
