Welcome
A little about ourselves
Black Prince SAS was set up in 2012 to continue running the existing District Scout Hikes once Bexleyheath District merged and became part of the new Bexley District (Registered Charity number 303506).
In 2015 we added a new event, Evade & Capture, where as well as navigation teams also had to avoid being captured en route.
In 2017 we re-introduced the Pegasus Hike, a night hike of 9 to 12 miles for the Explorer Scout section.
In 2018 we started a Monopoly Challenge in London for Scouts and Explorers.
2020 events were of course badly affected, as everyone was, by COVID-19 with the majority cancelled or postponed. The 2 day hikes were rearranged and run (in a modified format to comply with COVID Amber restrictions) in October and November's Monopoly Challenge was run on Zoom rather than around London.
The first event of 2021 was April's Evade & Capture which was from home via Zoom due to the ongoing COVID restrictions while June 2021's Howard Morgan Patrol Hike and Sixers Hike Challenge saw a first face to face event since February 2020.
In 2022 Black Prince SAS accepted the chance to organise the latest Bexley District Camp in September with over 600 spending the weekend at our District Site - Cudham Shaws Outdoor Centre.
Post-CIVID, 2023 saw the introduction of the Woodstock Hike (as Edward, the Black Prince, was Edward of Woodstock), where less experienced teams in June's day hike can walk with a Leader to mirror the 2 hikes for Scouts at the Haslehurst Hike.
2024 saw The Scout Association disband Scout Active Support Units so 2025 will see some more changes and chapters written but hopefully still many of the same events running for Scouts and Explorers from Bexley District....
Haslehurst Hike 2024
October saw us return to Adamswell for the annual Haslehurst and Pegasus Night Hikes with the 3 winners announced on a wet Sunday morning - thankfully the rain had held off while teams had been out walking the previous night under a full moon. Congratulations to 1st Foots Cray who won the senior Haslehurst Hike for the first time ever and to Old Bexley Scouts who won the junior Haslehurst Hike for the first time since 2009. Both competitions were close and well done to all teams as all bar one completed the whole route and the Jimmy Bus was largely redundant for the night. As every year many thanks to everyone who helped with running the hike which is much appreciated as always as these events simply wouldn't happen without all of you. Pegasus Hike 2024
In October 2024 we also ran the Pegasus Hike for Explorer Units within Bexley to run alongside the Haslehurst Hike. This was also a close competition with Excalibur ESU the winners, regaining the trophy they first won 2 years ago. Evade & Capture VIII
The first of our 2023 events took place in April near Sittingbourne with 17 teams taking part, the vast majority of whom made it back to the Safe House unaided. Congratulations to 1st Baldwyns Park, who were caught only once and therefore with €280 were the winners. As always many thanks to all of the Leaders, SAS members and Explorer Scouts who came gave up their time to help - the events simply wouldn't work without you. |
Howard Morgan Patrol Hike 2024
The annual Howard Morgan Patrol Hike was held on it's traditional day in June but with a new venue at 4th Sevenoaks. The competition was another close one with 1st Foots Cray the winners. We also again ran a competition for teams walking with a leader - the Woodstock Hike - with Old Bexley winning that by just 6 points. As always, many thanks to all the Leaders, SAS members and Explorers who gave up their time to run checkpoints or walk with their teams in both the Scout and Cub events. Sixers Hike Challenge 2024
Congratulations to 1st Baldwyns Park Hathi who won the Sixers Hike Challenge, winning the event for an 8th time.
As ever this competition was very close with only a few points separating the teams and we hope to see many of the older Cubs at our Haslehurst Hike in October and other events once they've moved onto Scouts. Monopoly Challenge 2024
In November we ran our Monopoly Challenge events again , returning to London but for the 1st time we used the Monopoly Olympic Board locations (with 2024 being an Olympic year). Congratulations to 5th/7th Bexleyheath who won the Scout competition and to Excalibur ESU who retained the Explorer competition for a 4th successive year. |
