A little about ourselves
Black Prince SAS was set up in 2012 to continue running the existing District Scout Hikes once Bexleyheath District merged and became part of the new Bexley District (Registered Charity number 303506).
In 2015 we added a new event, Evade & Capture, where as well as navigation teams also had to avoid being captured en route.
In 2017 we re-introduced the Pegasus Hike, a night hike of 9 to 12 miles for the Explorer Scout section.
In 2018 we started a Monopoly Challenge in London for Scouts and Explorers.
2020 events were of course badly affected, as everyone was, by COVID-19 with the majority cancelled or postponed. The 2 day hikes were rearranged and run (in a modified format to comply with COVID Amber restrictions) in October and November's Monopoly Challenge was run on Zoom rather than around London.
The first event of 2021 was April's Evade & Capture which was from home via Zoom due to the ongoing COVID restrictions while June 2021's Howard Morgan Patrol Hike and Sixers Hike Challenge saw a first face to face event since February 2020.
In 2022 Black Prince SAS have accepted the chance to organise the latest Bexley District Camp in September - full details are attached to the OSM event shared to groups.
Haslehurst Hike 2021
October saw our first 'normal' event since COVID with the return of the 2 night hikes.
Congratulations to 1st Baldwyns Park who won both the senior Haslehurst Hike and (by just 2 points) also the junior Haslehurst Hike.
It was great to see so many teams entered and well done to all - especially as we had missed a year - almost all teams completed the route and as usual the competition was very closely fought.
As every year many thanks to everyone who helped with running the hike which is much appreciated as always.
Pegasus Hike 2021
In October 2021 we also ran the Pegasus Hike for Explorer Units within Bexley to run alongside the Haslehurst Hike with a similar but slightly longer route.
This was also extremely close with just 1 point separating the top 2 teams and Black Prince ESU the winners for the first time.
Evade & Capture VI
The first of our 2021 events took place in April via Zoom due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions with teams tackling an online House of Spies Quiz (using Quizizz) and then an online escape room CSI:Grounded.
Congratulations to 1st Foots Cray who came both 1st and 2nd.
As always many thanks to all of the Leaders, SAS members and Explorer Scouts who came gave up their time to help - the events simply wouldn't work without you.
Bexley District Camp 2022
Black Prince SAS have agreed to run the 4th Bexley District Camp which will now take place over the weekend of 23 - 25 September 2022 to coincide with 10 years since the creation of Bexley District from the merger of the 4 Districts within the London Borough of Bexley - Bexleyheath, East Wickham & Welling, Erith & Crayford and Sidcup.
Details have been sent to Leaders and the shared OSM event is open for bookings until the end of January 2022.
Howard Morgan Patrol Hike 2021
The annual Howard Morgan Patrol Hike returned to it's traditional day in June and was our first face to face event since February 2020 so it was great to see everyone in person rather than on Zoom!
The hike has run since 1992 and for the first time ever we had a tie for 1st place so congratulations to both 1st Baldwyns Park and 1st Foots Cray who each dropped just 15 points across 8 checkpoints plus inspection.
As always, many thanks to all the Leaders, SAS members and Explorers who gave up their time to run checkpoints or walk with their teams in both the Scout and Cub events.
Sixers Hike Challenge 2021
Congratulations to 1st Baldwyns Park Hathi Cubs who won the Sixers Hike Challenge, winning the event for a record extending 7th time.
As ever this competition was very close with only a few points separating the teams and we hope to see many of the older Cubs at our Haslehurst Hike in October and other events once they've moved onto Scouts.
Monopoly Challenge 2021
In November we ran our Monopoly Challenge events again but due to ongoing COVID-19 this year these were done around our home Borough of Bexley rather than in central London so that teams didn't need to use the Underground.
Congratulations to 1st Foots Cray who won the Scout competition again having won on Zoom around Brussels in 2021.
The Explorer competition was possibly the closest event we've ever organised with just 5 points separating the top 3, the top 2 level on points and therefore effectively 3 minutes deciding the outcome with Excalibur ESU the winners by the narrowest of margins.
